June 14 Board Message on Coronavirus - Season Canceled

Dear North Central Little League Community (Baseball, Softball & TeeBall)

I am disappointed to share the news that your North Central Little League Board has come to the decision to cancel the 2020 Little League Spring Season. We were only a couple of weeks into the season for older divisions and just getting ready to kickoff the younger player seasons when we took a pause to stay home and stay safe. Our little league was looking strong, top-to-bottom, with over 600 players and some great local business sponsors.

Your NCLL Board has spent countless hours trying determine a way to implement a delayed season that seemed to get shorter and shorter as the calendar turned from March to April to May and now mid-June.  All of us were hopeful that the COVID-19 health situation would improve faster to move into Phase 2 for practices and Phase 3 for games. Unfortunately, Seattle Parks will not issue field permits until sometime in July and some of the fields would not be available for various reasons. With all that information, the Board felt it was time to make steps to close the planned 2020 spring season and turn our attention to preparing for the future.

Thank you to the many families who responded to our survey. More than 75% wanted to play ball and more than 30% have elected to donate registration fees back to North Central for our financial survival.  We appreciate your support of our neighborhood treasure and your generosity will allow the league to be in a position to fund summer and possible fall clinics for both baseball and softball.

The good news is we are still working with Seattle Parks on possible field permits for later this summer. Our goal is to get kids back on the fields in a safe environment as soon as possible, even for late summer training in small groups, focusing on fundamentals of baseball and softball. We will be reaching out to coaches soon if we are successful in securing field permits for  these five-player training groups.

If you volunteered to manage, coach, umpire, score, help out at events like the Jamboree, Mariner Day, or Championship Saturday, we thank you and hope you will consider giving your time in 2021.

I know you are all as disappointed as I am with this decision. This spring has been a challenge in every facet of life, but I am confident for a return to better normal. At least the city picked the right year to do the road work project along Greenlake and Stone Way, as that plus our normal season would have been a mess!

If you requested a refund, it will be processed in the next 30 days. If you requested to move your registration fee to 2021, it will be a credit in your account. Thank you again for all the families who were able to donate those fees to NCLL.

I will be communicating on the status of free summer clinics soon (fingers crossed), and will elaborate on the safety protocols for both players and families as soon as we can finalize everything with Seattle Parks. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kane
NCLL Board President
